Technologies

This page will outline the technologies in use on the network.

Border Gateway Protocol

The Border Gateway Protocol will be used by participants to exchange routes between routers on the network.

Domain Name System

The Domain Name System will be used by participants to (optionally) resolve domain names on our network to the relevant IP addresses. The NX3 project will use the .nx3 domain.

Network Tunnels

In order to provide connectivity between participants, network tunnels will need to be used in order to provide an overlay network on top of the pre-existing internet. Such tunnels will be used instead of dedicated physical infrastructure. These tunnels will be ran between operators that peer, and can be chosen at their discretion. Recommended technologies include Wiregaurd, GRE, IPSec, Tinc, and OpenVPN.
